When Meghan Markle tied the knot with Prince Harry, she was already a well-known figure due to her successful acting career, and thus became the Duchess of Sussex.

However, she has since confessed that she wasn’t fully prepared for the intense scrutiny that comes with being part of the Royal Family. She’s been open about her struggles with mental health issues and suicidal thoughts during her time as a working member of ‘the Firm’.

This led to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex deciding that they needed to make a change, concluding that being full-time, tax-payer-funded representatives of the crown wasn’t suitable for their young family. While the couple initially hoped to continue as part-time working royals, the late Queen Elizabeth deemed this model unworkable, leading to their complete departure from the House of Windsor.

Since their exit, relations have been tense between the Sussexes and some other senior royals. Meghan and Harry’s openness about the challenges they faced within the monarchy and allegations made against Queen Camilla and Prince William among others have reportedly become points of dispute.

However, in a previous interview, Meghan spoke about the significance of “forgiveness” and revealed that she had made “an active effort” in this regard towards her royal in-laws, reports the Mirror.

In a candid chat with The Cut magazine back in 2022, while she was on the promotional trail for her podcast Archetypes, Meghan was quizzed about whether forgiveness was still on the cards after all the drama with the royals and her own kin. The Duchess responded: “I think forgiveness is really important. It takes a lot more energy to not forgive…But it takes a lot of effort to forgive. I’ve really made an active effort, especially knowing that I can say anything”.

Meghan also highlighted that nothing legally stopped her from sharing her side of the story: “It’s interesting, I’ve never had to sign anything that restricts me from talking…I can talk about my whole experience and make a choice not to,” and further into the conversation, she remarked, “I have a lot to say until I don’t. Do you like that? Sometimes, as they say, the silent part is still part of the song.”

In another part of the interview, Meghan disclosed that during her trip to the UK for the late Queen’s Platinum Jubileea jubilant weekend that also marked Princess Lilibet’s first birthdayshe took the opportunity to pack up her belongings at Frogmore Cottage.
