MSP Clare Adamson nominated Mariam Tariq, chief executive of Motherwell-based charity The Miracle Foundation, as her ‘local hero’ to attend the 25th anniversary of the Scottish Parliament celebration.

As part of the prestigious event to mark 25 years since the reconvening of the Scottish Parliament, every MSP was asked to nominate constituents who have made an extraordinary contribution to the lives of people living in their community.

Founded in 2016, the Miracle Foundation supports bereaved children and young people in Lanarkshire.

The inspiration for the Foundation stemmed from Mariam and her husband’s own experience of loss, driving her to create a safe space for children and young people to heal from trauma.

Through early intervention bereavement and trauma support, including counselling, art therapy, and mental health services, Mariam, her dedicated team, and volunteers have extended a helping hand to thousands of families across Lanarkshire.

Ms Adamson, MSP for Motherwell and Wishaw said: “Mariam is an indomitable character. Her drive has been pivotal in shaping the Miracle Foundation into a cherished community charity providing a crucial service for people going through an acutely difficult time.

“It was an honour to have her as a local hero at the 25th anniversary of the Scottish Parliament.

“Mariam’s vision is one where every child, young person, and family has the necessary support & coping mechanisms to safeguard their mental health and well-being in difficult circumstances.

“The Miracle Foundation offers support to any child or young person aged four to 19 and their families who have experienced Trauma through one-to-one counselling support through art therapy, play therapy and family therapy.

The organisation delivers a 10-to-12-week block of sessions of Trauma support to each child or young person or family accessing their services.

“Her beliefs, principles, and practices have fostered meaningful connections and positive outcomes within the community.

Mariam Tariq added: “I feel honoured to have been nominated as a Local Hero and to be able to meet The King and Queen.

“The significance of The Miracle Foundation’s services has never been more critical. The organisation is proud to be supporting so many families living in Lanarkshire.

“I am so proud of our team of Trauma Support workers who make life changing differences everyday so children and young people can reach their full life potential.

“I am grateful for the support from Clare Adamson MSP who has always shown her support to the community in which she serves.”
