A woman was discovered dead inside of a luggage bag near an apartment complex close to an airport.
Kristen Avelar, 46, was found on October 3 near Spencer Street and East Reno Avenue, which is about a mile north of Harry Reid International Airport in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Cops responded to a report of a possibly deceased person around 4.19am and ‘found a female inside a luggage bag near an apartment complex’, stated the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department on Monday.
First responders confirmed that the woman was dead, and Avelar was identified by the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
Her death was ruled as suspicious and is under investigation by the police department’s homicide section.
Her cause of death was not immediately clear.
The department posted five photos of Avelar on YouTube and asked for the public’s help for information on Avelar and her whereabouts before her death.
All of the pictures were close-up headshots of Avelar, some showing her smiling slightly and others with no expression. She had blue eyes and brown hair.
Anyone with information is urged to contact the police department’s homicide section or Crime Stoppers.
Avelar appeared to be a mother-of-three who was divorced, according to social media posts viewed by the Daily Mail. She posted advice and inspirational quotes on her page.
Her body was found days before Florida police released a video of another 46-year-old woman, Sarah Boone, allegedly laughing while recording her boyfriend zipped in a suitcase and pleading for help until he suffocated to death. Boone has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder of Jorge Torres Jr, 42, in a Winter Park home.
Boone claimed that she and Torres were playing an alcohol-involved game of hide-and-seek and that she found him inside a suitcase and zipped him inside with two fingers sticking, assuming he could get out. Her trial begins on October 14.
