Police are investigating a blaze at a block of flats in Toryglen after firefighters rushed to tackle it late on Tuesday afternoon.

The blaze had broken out in a top floor property in Prospecthill Crescent and was reported around 5.30pm on October 8.

Emergency services were called to the scene and flames could be seen from the street below as worried neighbours looked on from their verandas.

The street was cordoned off for a time but that was later lifted. There were no reports of any injuries.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said: “We were alerted at 5.29pm on Wednesday, 9 October to reports of a fire affecting a flat in a multistorey building at Prospecthill Crescent in Glasgow.

“Operations Control immediately mobilised five appliances, including a height appliance, to the scene.

“Crews extinguished the fire and there were no reported casualties.

“Firefighters ensured the area was made safe before leaving the scene.”

Officers from Police Scotland are continuing to carry out enquiries into the fire and have appealed for information on the cause of the fire.

Police Scotland Inspector Alex Marshall, said: “Thankfully no-one was injured as a result of the fire.

“Enquiries into the fire are still ongoing and I would appeal to anyone with any information as to how the fire started to contact police on 101, quoting incident 2791 of Tuesday, 8 October, 2024.”
