A man has been arrested in connection with the death of dad David Graham.

Police Scotland launched a murder investigation following the death of the 38-year-old from Cambuslang after he was allegedly attacked while walking alone in the General’s Gate area of Uddingston on October 6.

A number of people came to his aid before he was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow, but he was pronounced dead on arrival.

On Wednesday morning, officers said they had arrested a 29-year-old man in connection with his death and enquiries remained ongoing.

A large police presence has been at the scene in Uddingston this week, with forensic officers spotted combing the street and detectives speaking to shocked locals and checking CCTV footage.

The police statement released on Wednesday said: “Following the death of 38-year-old, David Graham, from Cambuslang, officers have arrested a 29-year-old man in connection with his death. Enquiries remain ongoing.

“Around 7.35pm, on Sunday, 6 October, 2024, Mr Graham was walking in General’s Gate when he was attacked. He was taken by ambulance to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow but was pronounced dead on arrival.”

David’s heartbroken friends and family have paid tribute to him.

One person wrote: “This is so sad, thinking of everyone involved”

Another tribute said: “Thoughts are with the family David was a great guy known well by all the community and was a very caring guy. Rip David. Love to all the family.”

And another said: “Poor family, heartbreaking, remember David well when we were young he was a nice guy.”

Another tribute added: “God bless David and the family he leaves behind. Rest easy pal. Life is so unbelievably cruel at times.”

Writing online, someone said: “Heartbreaking, thinking of all the family.”

While another person wrote: “So heartbreaking, thoughts and prayers are with the family through this difficult time.”

Local residents and businesses with security cameras, and motorists with dash cams who were in the area of General’s Gate and Old Glasgow Road, were urged to check their footage.

Police previously said they were interested in a silver car which was seen parked near the scene and then drove off.

Detective Chief Inspector Graham McCreadie, Major Investigation Teams West, said: “Our thoughts are with Mr Graham’s family and friends at this extremely difficult time.”

He added: “We have already spoken to a number of people who came to Mr Graham’s aid until the ambulance arrived and I would like to thank them for their assistance.

“However, I am still keen to speak to anyone else who was in the area at the time, and may have seen or heard anything suspicious. Please get in touch with officers.

“We would also urge any motorists with dashcams who were in General’s Gate or Old Glasgow Road areas on Sunday night to check your footage.

“You may have captured something which could be of significance to our investigation.”

A website has been set up that gives members of the public access to a form to send information directly to the Major Investigation Team, which can be submitted anonymously if you wish.
