When it comes to life in the royal spotlight, it’s safe to say that the royal children live a life unlike that of most other youngsters their age. From increased security to public engagements, not to mention a handful of staff on hand to make sure they’re well looked after – it’s easy to believe that Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis’ life is worlds away from British normality.
However, despite some differences to their upbringing, Prince William recently revealed that they’re not quite as different to many children as you might think, as he shared a relatable parenting confession while attending the headquarters of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) in London on October 9, for a special event to highlight the importance of young people in the film, games and television industries.
While attending the event, which was co-hosted by BAFTA and The Royal African Society (two organisations the Prince is a proud patron of) William told Erik Scott, a National Film and TV School student, that his children are “always wrestling over the remote” in scenes that will no doubt be familiar to any parent of multiple children, reports Hello!
Yet while living in a digital age has meant the children are exposed to screens more often than in previous years, the Prince of Wales previously revealed that he and wife Princess Kate, have tirelessly worked to try and “regulate” their screen time as much as possible. William made the admission back in January 2022, when he was taking part in another BAFTA visit and revealed to the world that Prince George was a huge gaming fan.
“They’re fascinated by it,” Prince William said at the time. The royal dad then went on to add that his younger children, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis (who were then aged 6 and 3), “are a bit too small at the moment, but they love the films.”
Yet while the light-hearted comment made about commandeering the remote may have struck a chord with many guests in attendance, the young royals may have quite the fight on their hands when it comes to deciding what to watch if their father has any say in the matter. During the October outing, William cheekily told director Paul Greengrass, “Another Bourne, another Bourne,” referring to the Jason Bourne film franchise, reports The Independent.
According to The Times, “Greengrass laughed and shook his head” at the suggestion, having been responsible for three of the five films in the Bourne franchise.
When the royals aren’t busy tuning into films on screen however, we do know that the sport-mad household like to keep up to date with the latest happenings across a variety of disciplines, notably football – which saw Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis delightedly following England’s efforts at the World Cup earlier this year.
In a picture shared online by William and Kate, both children could be seen sporting matching football jerseys as they watched the drama unfold on screen, all while Prince William and their older brother Prince George enjoyed the match in person!
William also went on to hint that the family had eagerly also followed Team Great Britain at the 2024 Paris Olympics. While attending the reopening of Birtley Community Pool last week, the Prince confessed that he and Kate had skipped attending the Olympics in person due to her chemotherapy treatment at the time, before adding: “But we watched the whole thing. We were glued to it every day.”
