BLUEFIELD, W.Va. – A popular, long-running fall tradition is returning to Summers County that hopes to provide fun while celebrating the heritage of the area.

Hinton’s Railroad Days will be returning for its 58th year on Friday, October 11 through Sunday, October 13.  Jack Scott, the Mayor of Hinton, says this event was created to celebrate the history of this 150-year-old railroad town.

This year, they are planning on having more than one hundred craft and food vendors and twenty-four performing bands for three days of music, food, and fun. There will also be things for all ages to do, with a kid zone, bounce houses, and trackless train rides.

He says the large number of people this event attracts helps both local businesses and churches and organizations taking part, while also introducing newcomers to this historic city.

“This is a busy weekend on steroids for us, so we’re looking forward to it. It means a lot to our community, it’s great exposure, and it kind of gives us a reason to invite people to come and see us,” says Mayor Scott.

This year, they will also have a musical guest, John Ellison, the writer of the hit song “Some Kind of Wonderful.”  He’ll be holding a special event on Sunday at 12:30 pm to memorialize this song.
