A woman has been left baffled after her husband was invited to a wedding without her.

The bride-to-be, a close friend of her husband, insisted he attend alone and even stay in a hotel the night before to help with preparations.

Despite no known issues between them, the wife was not invited, leaving her feeling snubbed and confused. She took to Mumsnet to seek advice on the situation, revealing that when she asked her husband, he said the bride’s response was “it’s my wedding and I’ll invite who I want”.

While acknowledging the guest list is the couple’s decision, the wife found it strange not to be invited given their long-term marriage and the fact the wedding will have more than 100 guests.

The woman revealed her husband’s friend has always declined to attend social events where she is present, preferring to meet her husband alone. She expressed her upset when fellow Mumsnet users shared their thoughts on the situation.

One user commented: “YANBU [you are not being unreasonable], it’s incredibly weird and rude, in my opinion.” Another added: “It’s clear she doesn’t like you, I’d say! Because yes it’s very weird.”

A third user questioned: “What’s your DH [dear husband] going to do? Is he going to tolerate this blatant snub?” The woman confirmed her husband does plan to attend and she’s hurt by this. She said: “If it was the other way round I’d decline and I’m gobsmacked that he thinks it’s not a big deal!”

Many people asked why the bride-to-be “clearly” doesn’t like the woman because they viewed the lack of wedding invitation as a “clear message” of her disdain, but she explained they haven’t ever spent enough time around one another for her to be able to form a solid opinion of her.

One person commented: “Obviously it’s her wedding and her choice, she is right. We all have a right to be rude if we want to. But it’s your husband’s right to choose whether or not he accepts the invitation thus condoning her rudeness.”

Another described the idea of the bride having the woman’s husband as a witness at her wedding as a “very big deal” but said the fact she “won’t acknowledge or respect his marriage” is “weird and rude”.
