Dalbeattie Star’s clash with Upper Annandale had to be abandoned on Saturday.

Star were 3-2 up with 20 minutes left in Moffat when Uppers’ Miguel Jnr suffered a horror injury – later diagnosed as a dislocated knee.

And due to the length of time it would take for an ambulance to attend, the ref had no option but to abandon the game.

Star boss Eddie Warwick said: “It’s disappointing and frustrating but first and foremost we need to make sure the boy is OK. He will eventually make a recovery, which is the most important thing.

“We don’t want to see anybody getting hurt and everybody has their jobs during the week.

“The referee didn’t have much option – he gave it 20 minutes but the ambulance was still a while away.”

Star had been in front thanks to a couple of Ross Hunter penalties as well as a goal from Kyle Higgins.

Warwick added: “We were poor in the first half, it was the worst I’ve seen us. We did the opposite of what we’d worked on and trained on and what we spoke to them about. We’d watched them and spoke about how they were going to play – and they have scored two goals from their strengths, which was extremely disappointing. We’ve worked ourselves back into the game, I didn’t need to go crazy at half-time.

“We reacted well, we turned up from half-time onwards and we were in the lead and in the ascendancy and looking strong. We tweaked the system at half-time and it clearly worked.

“The biggest problem is we didn’t get to finish the game and we have to do it again, which is nobody’s fault.”

There are no games in the South this week, meaning Star have a fortnight to prepare for their game against Stranraer.

And while Saturday’s game didn’t get finished, Warwick and his coaching team have plenty to work on as they prepare to face Allan Jenkins’ side.

He said: “Saturday gave me more questions than answers, which is for us to look at and figure out. It’s a lot for us to do, which I’m happy about as I like the challenge of trying to figure things out.

“We know it’ll be really difficult against Stranraer. They’re really good this season. I’m very good friends with Allan, we did our A licence together and we’ve worked together for quite a bit.

“We’re similar coaches, we’re detailed, we’re very organised and professional in our approach and don’t leave any stones unturned. We work hard and when there’s time off we push them hard.

“I know he’ll be really busy the next fortnight preparing his team for Dalbeattie and we must match that and make sure we’re 100 per cent on it.”
