Baby Reindeer creator Richard Gadd will face off with Ncuti Gatwa for the nation’s favourite Scot at this year’s BAFTA Scotland awards.

Gadd, the creator and star of the hit Netflix show, is one of six nominees who will face a public vote alongside Gatwa for Dr Who, Jack Bowden for Slow Horses, Ashley Storrie for Dinosaur, Abby Cook for Blue Peter and David Tennant, also for Dr Who.

The BAFTA Scotland Audience Award for Favourite Scot on Screen award, in partnership with Screen Scotland, is the only category voted for by the public.

The six nominees were selected by an independent jury comprised of Scottish media and culture experts, and recognises the key Scottish talent who have made an impact with audiences in the past year.

The vote remains open until 5pm on Wednesday, October 20, and the winner will be announced at the BAFTA Scotland Awards ceremony.

Previous winners of the BAFTA Scotland Audience Award include Lawrence Chaney for RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, Sam Heughan for Outlander, and Lauren Lyle for Karen Pirie.

Jude MacLaverty, Director of BAFTA Scotland, said: “The six nominees announced today have captured our nation’s attention creating ‘watercooler’ moments through their work and performances on our TV screens.

“All six nominees have inspired, entertained and educated audiences over the past year. Now it’s over to you, the public, to vote for YOUR favourite Scot on Screen from this past year. Get voting!”

Gadd, 35, has already been given the BAFTA Scotland nod in the Actor and Writer TV categories following his trio of Emmy wins earlier this summer.

His latest recognition comes just days after a US judge decided that his alleged stalker, Fiona Harvey, who inspired his Baby Reindeer series, could go ahead with a multi-million dollar lawsuit in a US court.

Netflix has vowed to vigorously defend Gadd’s right to tell “his story”.

The BAFTA Scotland Awards 2024 will take place on Sunday, November 17 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Glasgow Central.

Event sponsors and partners have been confirmed as BBC Scotland, Champagne Taittinger, Channel 4, Deloitte, EE, Hildon Mineral Water, Johnnie Walker Princes Street, Lancôme, Screen Scotland, STV and Villa Maria.

The BAFTA Scotland Awards operate on a not-for-profit basis and tickets for the ceremony are available to buy at events.bafta.org now.
