He continues to make the headlines for all the right reasons and for Jamie Murphy it is exactly why Rangers should be looking to bring Lennon Miller on board.
The Motherwell starlet continues to improve by the game in the heart of Stuart Kettlewell’s side with many pundits and ex-pros in the media game telling both Philippe Clement and rivals Celtic exactly why he should be on their radar. During the summer transfer window Brendan Rodgers went to Dundee and splashed out £1million on Hoops fan and star man Luke McCowan while Rangers brought in Connor Barron from Aberdeen with a fee yet to be determined on that front.
Former Rangers and Motherwell attacker Murphy – now on the books at Ayr United – was once that player coming through at Fir Park and he expects the latest top sensation to ‘move on sooner rather than later’ and believes he is the type of player both sides of the Old Firm should be looking to bring in. Speaking on Go Radio, Murphy said: “He’s been terrific. To come in the way he has and settle into the team and almost be the main man at that age is really, really difficult to do so it is no wonder why teams are looking at him and I expect him to move on sooner rather than later.
“He’s the type of player both Old Firm teams should be looking at. Going back in the day here but looking at the best players in Scotland first and foremost before you go to a foreign player. That is where the bread and butter is. You want to have those players you can develop and play over time. You can see it with Rangers and Connor Barron. It may be a different situation at Rangers with Barron coming in. Maybe not being the one they wanted to start but he’s come in and done so well, he’s stayed in the team. I think both teams should definitely be looking at Lennon Miller.”
Meanwhile, it may be the international break but it has thrown up a Rangers meet up on the Nations League stage with Vaclav Cerny and Nedim Bajrami going head to head during Czech Republic’s clash with Albania. It was the Czechs who claimed all three points on their home turf with a 2-0 win. Both players featured from the start before being replaced in the final stages.
The win puts Cerny and Co on six points from three outings so far with Bajrami and his colleagues three points and a spot further back in the League B, Group 1 standings at the halfway point. At the end of the game the Rangers pair exchanged shirts and shared a snap of the duo holding the others top. They uploaded the shot to social media with the caption ‘My brother’.
Elsewhere, Billy Dodds would like to see Rangers mirror Celtic in having a spine of eight or nine of their team right away and making small tweaks rather than numerous changes for games.
Speaking to Record Sport, the former Ibrox striker believes Clement is still hunting for his strongest XI and he reckons the constant tweaks is why the light Blues are ‘still inconsistent’. He explained: “It feels like Philippe Clement is always searching for his strongest XI, whereas Celtic, they know eight, nine of their team right away and there’s maybe two or three changing.
“I’d like to see Rangers having a bit of that. There’s nothing wrong with changing your team if you’re managing the balance between Europe and domestic action. But this chopping and changing has been going on for quite a while now. Philippe Clement’s been there a year now and I think all these changes are why Rangers are still inconsistent – some really good results but then some slip-ups.
“It sounds as if I’m having a go at the manager but I’m not. Of course there’s been injuries but when these guys return, it seems to take a while to get them back in the team and maybe that’s causing the inconsistency.”
