GHENT, W.Va. – A new West Virginia Mountain Rides route will take visitors through Southern West Virginia, including Princeton, Bluefield and McDowell County.

Gov. Jim Justice and Tourism Secretary Chelsea Ruby helped cut the ribbon opening the Heritage Highway in Beckley Monday, a new route that designates a 200-mile loop through the southern region that can be completed in about five hours by cars and motorcycles.

Starting in Beckley, the loop uses Rt. 19 to Princeton, connecting with Rt. 52 in Bluefield, going through McDowell and Wyoming counties and into Raleigh County, ending back in Beckley. Along the way, visitors can stop by places like Pinnacle Rock and Twin Falls state parks was well as Tamarack, the Exhibition Coal Mine and several Hatfield-McCoy ATV trails.

Justice said Southern West Virginia holds a very special place in his heart, and the loop will give motorists an opportunity to see its beauty firsthand, and now is the perfect time to see the foliage.

Ruby said adding this fifth route in the state to explore the state’s beauty and rich culture, heritage and history enhances this “amazing program.”
