A brutal knife killer who was caged for a double slaying has died behind bars. Robert Stratton when he died at HMP Low Moss on October 13.

The 50-year-old was serving life for murdering mum-of-three Julie McCash, 43, and killing David Sorrie, 32, in knife attacks at a vigil for tragic cliff fall teenager Ralph Smith, 18, in February 2017.

The evil brute was high on drink and cocaine when he attacked his victims with two knives. He was later ordered to serve a minimum of 23 years behind bars after being found guilty of stabbing them to death.

Stratton was then jailed for a further five years in 2019 for slashing an inmate and wounding a female prison officer in the jail where he was serving life. The horror incident took place at HMP Grampian at Peterhead, in Aberdeenshire, when he injured Gillian Connor with a vicious homemade weapon as she bravely intervened to halt the attack on the prisoner.

There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances on his death and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Police were made aware of the death of a 50-year-old man at HMP Low Moss, Crosshill Road, Glasgow on Sunday, October 13.

“There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the death and a report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal.”

The Scottish Prison Service has also been approached for comment.
