NARROWS, Va. – The Giles County community is still on the long road to recovery after a flood destroyed hundreds of campers and damaged dozens of homes beside the New River.

Giles County Emergency Management Coordinator Jon Butler says, 400 campers were destroyed, 60 homes were impacted, 48 families were displaced.

Out of those 48 families 30 of them have found permanent residences.

FEMA is providing assistance to Giles County. They ask people to still go through your insurance companies first and then register with them.

Emergency management says that some individuals have already received payouts from FEMA.
