A new study has revealed the “most remote” pub in Scotland.
Pubs are a major part of Scottish culture, with many Scots having a favourite local. With countless taverns and inns found in cities, towns, and villages across the country, they are a popular destination to spend time with loved ones.
While you are likely to never be too far from a boozer, some pubs in Scotland are a lot more difficult to get to. Experts at Dojo have revealed Scotland’s “most remote” watering hole that visitors have to take a ferry to visit.
According to Dojo, The Puffer Bar on Easdale Island is the most remote pub not just in Scotland but the whole of the UK. Situated 115 miles from Glasgow, Easdale is the smallest permanently inhabited island of the Inner Hebrides and is home to around just 60 people.
The island is car-free and there is no vehicular access to it. Carrying up to 10 passengers, the ferry from Oban takes approximately five minutes and runs every day.
The Puffer Bar itself is a pub and restaurant that serves up an array of fresh food and drink. While the restaurant is currently closed, the pub is open from 6pm between Thursday and Saturday.
The cosy and homely pub, which is housed within a restored quarrier’s cottage, stocks a variety of beers and whiskies. It also has a separate wine menu, with a generous selection of whites, reds, and rosés available — as well as Prosecco.
The Puffer Bar has also received rave reviews from visitors. It currently has an average rating of 4.6 out of five on Google based on 87 reviews.
One recent customer wrote: “Arrived in a group of nine and we all had a fabulous lunch. My wife and I had the haddock bite sandwich and a scone.
“The sandwich was excellent. A real step-up from my fish finger sandwiches!”
They added: “Lovely place to sit in a really special location. Looking forward to the return trip already!”
“Fantastic place in a fantastic setting,” a second shared, while a third agreed: “What a lovely place and people.”
