Former Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness has fired a warning to England fans over the appointment of Thomas Tuchel.
The German became just the third non-British manager of the national side on Wednesday, signing an 18-month deal with the Three Lions.
That will see Tuchel through to the 2026 World Cup, when he’ll have the chance of winning the competition for the second time in England’s history.
Tuchel’s appointment follows a disastrous 18 months at Bayern Munich.
He left the club at the end of last season after Bayer Leverkusen ended the club’s 10-year winning run of the Bundesliga title.
Hoeness, who has been involved with Bayern since 1970, has previously called Tuchel a ‘disaster’ for his time in Bavaria and accused the former Chelsea boss of not wanting to develop younger players.
And, in his praise of new manager Vincent Kompany, Hoeness has taken another dig at Tuchel by saying he now enjoys watching the team again.
‘Vincent Kompany is – and that cannot be said for sure after a few weeks – a godsend for Bayern Munich,’ said Hoeness.
‘He’s someone who has played football at a high level himself. He also has a great character in my opinion and sees football as work. He wants to make the individual players better, and that’s what he’s working on. Sometimes they train for two hours until they’re tired So far I can only say good things.
‘We’ve had six games, four of which were away games, and we are top of the table. The 3-3 in Frankfurt has nothing to do with Vincent Kompany’s aggressive style of play, but rather with us playing a one-two on the halfway line in the 93rd minute
‘The nice thing is that we’re playing well, he [Kompany] is playing entertaining football. Since he’s been there, I’ve really enjoyed going to the stadium again. It’s entertainment.
‘We are all football fans. If you were in the stadium in Frankfurt and watched the game, you say: ‘Wow!’ And that’s what matters, that’s what we stand for.’
