BLUEFIELD, W.Va. -Bridge Day returns October 19th with locals and outsiders alike set to take the thrilling leap off the New River Gorge Bridge.

Every third Saturday in October people gather on the bridge to take their adventure to new heights.

This tradition has been taking place since 1980, when two parachutists jumped from a plane onto the historic bridge.

With thrill-seekers base-jumping from 876 feet in the air, Bridge Day brings thousands of people together annually in-between the West Virginia mountains.

Wednesday morning, Governor Jim Justice encouraged everyone to come out and enjoy what this unique event has to offer.

“Tens of thousands will be at Bridge Day. Go and enjoy and everything and just see how God will be showing off all across this great state and everything with the beauty beyond belief. We’ve gotten a little bit of cold weather, and the leaves should be really shining and turning on and everything. And so, so go, go, go to Bridge Day,” said Governor Jim Justice.

Pets, bicycles, carts, and strollers are not permitted on the bridge during bridge day along with coolers, packages, and large packs or satchels.

Also, Route 19 will be closed from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. for the event.
