COCKE COUNTY, Tenn. (WVLT/Gray News) – A Tennessee man with cancer was given a home on Tuesday.

James Gregory, 84, lost his home in the devastating floods from Hurricane Helene. Incredible Tiny Homes in Newport gave him a new tiny home for free.

“I can’t believe it,” Gregory said. “You need to pinch me to see if I am dreaming.”

The mini state-of-the-art home is fully equipped with a kitchen, bathroom and running hot water.

Gregory has been living with his daughter since the devastating floods. His granddaughter Sierra Moore was overwhelmed with emotion when seeing the new house for the first time.

“Felt great to know he is going to be in a nice, clean, safe home,” Moore said.

Friends of Gregory’s family contacted Incredible Tiny Homes on his behalf. Owner Randy Jones said he knows what it’s like to lose everything.

“I thought about this older gentleman. Being alone, being by himself. No bed, no anything,” Jones said. “I got a bed. Why not give it to him?”

The blessing is much more than just a safe place to live. It also provides the hope to move forward.

“Maybe I can live a while longer,” Gregory said.

Moore said they plan to build Gregory a driveway and help him furnish his new home.
