Gary Lucy, the former Hollyoaks star, has hit back at his ex Laura Anderson after she labelled him a “deadbeat dad”.
The ex Love Island star announced her pregnancy in February last year and shortly after, she and Gary revealed they had parted ways but planned to remain friendly for their unborn child.
Nine months later, Laura gave birth to their daughter Bonnie, with pictures on social media showing Gary present at the birth. However, their relationship has since deteriorated, with Laura expressing her disappointment over Gary’s alleged lack of involvement with their child on Instagram.
Gary, who is also father to India, 18, Elvis, 12, Sadie, 7, and Theodore, 4, from his previous relationship with Natasha Gray, reportedly split with Laura due to disagreements over relocating to her native Scotland after their baby’s birth, the Mirror reports.
Tensions escalated when Gary shared a series of photos of him playing with Bonnie, prompting Laura to accuse him of being an absent father in a shocking comment.
Laura vented: “Instead of posting videos of the one time you saw your daughter this year, can you please reply to my text from 2weeks ago please, that would be great”.
Gary’s ex-partner’s comment attracted hundreds of likes from his followers, but the actor seems to have responded with a subtle jab in a recent Instagram post.
Sharing a photo of himself smiling next to his son Theodore, Gary wrote, “I could eat him all up,” but it was the hashtags that grabbed his fans’ attention as he added #handsomeboy #deadbeatdad along with a middle finger emoji.
This isn’t the first time Laura has criticised Gary’s involvement in their daughter Bonnie’s life. In June, she was asked on Instagram if the toddler had a relationship with her father.
“Do you mean has her daddy seen her…. No he hasn’t since 2nd January if you would like to direct those questions to him as I have no control over the actions of others,” Laura retorted.
Earlier this year, Laura spoke to The Mirror about being a single parent and admitted she had “grieved” the life she envisioned when she became pregnant with Bonnie. She explained: “But that’s the cards I was dealt in the end. Of course, I’m going to make it work for my child, even more so. I feel like I’m a really good mum, to be honest.”
When asked for advice for other parents in her situation, she said: “[Bonnie’s] great, your social life does take a bit of a backseat but most people, your good friends understand that.”
She added: “Prioritise what you need to do, it’s just me. I have to make it work. I am tired but of course, I’m going to be tired. I’m raising a human soul, that’s what I signed up for.”
