Meghan Markle left fans in awe with a dramatically different appearance on the red carpet earlier this month, but it was her striking similarity to Kate Middleton that sparked discussion.

At the Children’s Hospital LA gala on October 5, the Duchess of Sussex, 43, stepped out in a re-vamped Carolina Herrera red dress featuring a daring neckline.

However, it wasn’t just the dress that caught the eye; Meghan also debuted a new hairstyle, letting her hair fall in loose waves – a departure from her often-seen precise up-dos.

Hair health expert and trend analyst Tom Smith lauded her style choice on TikTok, who said Meghan’s glossy brunette mane was a reflection one of the top hair trends for autumn/winter 2024 season. He explained: “Meghan Markle’s glossy, brunette hair is actually one of this winter’s leading hair trends, which sounds weird because it’s so simple.”

Smith focused on the glossiness and healthiness of her hair, stating: “This year is the year of the brunette,” noting that achieving such a look relied on “shine and evenness all the way through.”

Fans chimed in on the viral clip, with comments like: “She is stunning,” while others expressed delight at their hair being in vogue: “Finally my hair is on trend.”

However, some experts pointed out the hairstyle is often associated with Kate Middleton, whose cascading brown curls are copied by countless admirers across the globe.

Royal expert Lydia Alty commented on Meghan’s appearance, writing: “This is definitely a different reaction to what we have had in the past when it comes to Meghan Markle as many struggle to find something they can relate or like about her. I believe this may be a change in opinion about her.

“However, others may interpret it as Meghan trying to emulate the Princess of Wales, either to provoke her or to be more like her, which has been suggested before. Meanwhile, PR expert Eric Schiffer of Reputation Management Consultants noted that the former Suits star’s more relaxed style represents a significant change in her public image, saying: “Meghan’s hairstyle change is on point with today’s relatable, kickback style trend and signals a big shift in her public image.

“Not only does it make her more approachable, but it overcomes deep challenges with relatability and is clearly part of a master strategy to assuage her relevance desperation and to be more reputable like the Princess of Wales.”
