A dad who was allegedly attacked in a violent street brawl in Irvine has died in hospital from his injuries, three weeks after the incident. Malcolm McCandlish has been named by loved ones as the man who was allegedly seriously assaulted on the town’s High Street on Tuesday, September 24.

He was rushed to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment but, tragically, the 43-year-old died there on Monday, October 14.

Malcolm’s heartbroken family have confirmed that he had passed away from his injuries and said that he would be “dearly missed” as he left behind a “loving mother, father and sister, a devoted son and nephews.”

A fundraiser has been set by his dad, Malcolm Snr, to help with funeral costs. The heartbroke father: “Due to the sudden nature of Malcolm’s passing, the family is unfortunately financially unprepared for the funeral costs.

“The family would like to ask that if you knew Malcolm, if you’d consider donating towards the costs to make sure he gets the send off he deserves. The family would be grateful for any donation whatsoever.

“Malcolm leaves behind a loving mother, father and sister, a devoted son and nephews. He will be dearly missed by all his family. If you can’t donate, please share far and wide so we can reach our goal. Thank you.”

Police launched a probe following the shocking incident on September 24, where sickening footage of the street brawl in Ayrshire was shared online.

A 36-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with the incident and appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on October 9. Another 36-year-old has since been arrested and charged and is due to appear at the same court today, October 16.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were made aware of a 43-year-old man having allegedly been seriously assaulted at Irvine High Street around 6pm on Tuesday, September 24.

“The man was taken to Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where he died on Monday, October 14. A 36-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection and appeared at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Wednesday, October 9.

“A further man, aged 36, has been arrested in connection with the alleged incident. He is due to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Wednesday, October 16.”
