A fleet-footed musical man made no drama about completing a 57-mile marathon to raise funds for Monklands Light Opera (MLO).

Gary Young took part in the Glasgow to Edinburgh ultra marathon – and was cheered on by his fellow MLO members.

Gary, who has been with MLO for nearly two years, managed to raise an impressive £1285 to boost the group’s funds.

Gary told Lanarkshire Live: “The course started at Glasgow’s Riverside Museum and ended at the Saughton Sports Complex, running alongside the country’s canals.

“I was able to complete it in 10 hours, 16 minutes, and was cheered across the finish line by some of my MLO family.

“I have been part of MLO for almost two years and wanted to do something to support this community group, which has been so welcoming and open to new members like myself.

“Thanks to donations from my friends and family and members of the club, I was able to raise £1285, with a further donation of £1000 being made by my employer Barclays through their matched funding program.

“I’d like to thank everyone who donated, and supported my efforts, for helping to collect such an amazing total.

“The funds raised from this event will help us welcome new members and support others by creating a space for people from all walks of life to participate both on and off the stage in all aspects of musical theatre.”

MLO will be performing their next production, Gypsy: A Musical Fable , on November 6-9 at Airdrie’s Ebenezer Congregational Church Hall.
