Prince William and Kate Middleton, known for their thoughtful approach to parenting, often share insights into their family life during public engagements. They’ve discussed everything from favourite bedtime stories to screen-time rules, giving the public a glimpse into the Royal household’s parenting philosophy.

It seems that Prince William has an additional parenting tip, as he recently disclosed a key principle he follows with his children.

While attending a community event in London on October 15, hosted by the NFL Foundation UK, the Prince of Wales, aged 42, received an American Football as a gift for his children to mark his visit. This prompted him to share a playful yet insightful comment about a “crucial motto” he adheres to as a parent.

He then added with a hint of humour: “That’s really kind of you. Thank you very much. We’ll do some practice together,” and joked, “See how many windows I can smash.”

The candid glimpse into family life with his three children Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, marks yet another occasion where Prince William has shared insights about parenting them. Whilst Princess Kate, 42, has been privately recovering from cancer for much of this year, her husband William has been at the forefront of Royal duties, gratefully receiving numerous tokens and sweet treats as expressions of support from the public.

Prince William, in his encounters with the public, could not resist revealing titbits about his children’s current interests. He spoke about Princess Charlotte’s particular enthusiasm for “dancing and performing” and laughingly noted that all three children have a playful rivalry over who gets control of the TV remote.

Despite a challenging year for the Royal family, it seems there is a light at the end of the tunnel. The Princess of Wales delighted many with the news delivered via a charming video clip that she has completed her chemotherapy treatment, featuring her supportive family.

The unity within the family is palpable even through trying times, as they appear to stand solidly together. According to one palace insider, despite the past year’s trials, George, Charlotte and Louis seem “pretty happy with life.”

Speaking to PEOPLE, a palace insider highlighted the contentment of the Wales children: “Those children look pretty happy with life,” and attributed this to Kate’s influence: “A lot of it is the stabilising normality Kate brings – and that’s how she grew up. William absolutely loves it.”

Another source close to the Royal household discussed Kate’s approach: “Coming from a different background, she appreciates the importance of having family time,” and compared it to more traditional aristocratic practices: “She wasn’t brought up in that aristocratic setting where you see the children for a short time each day.”
