Coin enthusiasts are always reminding Brits to sift through their spare change.

It’s no secret some rare coins are worth a small fortune, especially those with quirky designs or errors. Even the kind with very little in circulation can hit a chord with collectors.

Just this week, all eyes were on a £1 coin which features a “new” error on the front. The special piece is part of the coins released with His Majesty King Charles III’s portrait on the front.

Now TikTok user @CoinCollectingWizard has again sent the collector community into a frenzy with a fresh video, showing off an exceedingly rare penny coin to his 205,000 fans.

In his post, he announced: “Attention this coin is worth at least £150,000. This is the 1933 pre-decimal penny from the United Kingdom. Now obviously I don’t have the coin, this is a fake copy version.”

He continued: “Do you have this coin from 1933? If so you are rich.”

However, temper your excitement; there are many look-alike coins that could mislead you into thinking you’ve struck it rich, when in reality, you might not have.

For those determined to find this elusive coin, the year must read 1933. He elaborated: “But I guarantee you do not have this coin, how do I know?

“Because it’s one of the rarest coins ever produced, there are other dates on those old pennies you might have and some do indeed carry value.

“But it’s never going to have the crazy value of the 1933 penny, as only seven are known to exist.”

He explained he receives thousands of messages daily from followers who think they’ve struck gold, but often overlook the crucial detail – the date.

To spot the pennies that could fetch a fortune, always check the date, or you can ask for assistance from the TikTok user. “There are other dates to look out for, but obviously not as the same value as the 1933 penny,” he concluded.

The @CoinCollectingWizard also noted in his post that some dates are still rare and valuable. Since the video went live, it racked up nearly 1,000 likes and dozens of comments.

One user commented: “You have my attention.” While another excitedly posted: “Has to be 1933!”
