BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB/Gray News) – A United Airlines flight departing from Charleston, South Carolina, on its way to Houston had to make an emergency landing at the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport on Tuesday morning due to mechanical issues.

Officials at the airport confirmed 123 passengers were on the plane at the time of the emergency landing.

Visibility issues forced the plane to land at Baton Rouge instead of the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.

United Airlines sent a recovery flight to Baton Rouge to pick up passengers and take them to Houston Tuesday afternoon.

The nature of the mechanical issues was not disclosed.
