Springside boxer Bradley Lowe says he’s excited for a ‘new beginning’ as the teenage ace gets his pro career up and running.

The 19-year-old has picked up four Scottish and four Western District titles as an amateur and is set to embark on a career in the pro ranks – which gets underway with a featherweight clash against Bolton’s Kiernan McAfee in Glasgow on Saturday, October 26.

The former Irvine Vineburgh star admits the time was right to make the step up after bagging titles galore in the amateur ranks.

And he says he’s ‘loving’ the hard work and dedication needed in the pro game after signing with Kynoch Boxing ahead of his debut bout.

Speaking to the Herald, he said: “I had a decent amateur career and had been in plenty of fights and won titles. I just thought that it was the right time to make the move and see what I can do as a pro.

“I’m absolutely loving it. It’s different to being amateur, the strength and conditioning in particular is tougher and a real focus point of being a pro.

“That’s one thing I’ve really noticed, you have to be a 100 per cent every single day with everything you do but that’s part of the challenge.

“It’s a new journey now that’s beginning and I’m ready for what comes next.”

He added: “I feel really good going into the bout. Sparring has been great and tough, so I feel in a great place. It’s been an enjoyable training camp. I’m confident heading into the night.”

The teenager comes from a family of boxers, and was inspired to take to the ring by papa Billy – who won three Scottish titles himself.

Sadly, Billy passed away in March and Bradley is determined to make him, and the rest of his family and friends, proud when he takes to the ring for the first time as a pro boxer.

He said: “I come from a big family of boxers. My papa Billy Lowe was a three time Scottish champion and he really inspired me. Sadly he passed away in March but he was a huge supporter for me and wouldn’t miss a fight.

“My dad was a boxer as well and there’s plenty of family and friends who love the sport so I’m hoping I can do them proud.”

A decent travelling support is already expected to make their way to Glasgow with plenty of time left still to buy tickets. And Bradley says it will be a fun experience hearing the Ayrshire contingent get behind their man.

He said: “It will be great to walk out to the ring and hear the crowd cheering me on. Hopefully there’s plenty who travel up from Ayrshire and it’s a great day for them.”

Bradley is currently looking to welcome sponsors to his team. Anyone interested, or looking for further information, can contact Bradley directly via [email protected] or Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/bradley.lowe.756.
