Bannockburn High pupil Arran Green has scooped some of the top honours in piping at Scotland’s national celebration of Gaelic culture.

Arran Green, 17, took home three prizes as the Royal National Mod got underway in Oban this weekend.

The talented musician walked away with the scooped the W.G.G. Wilson Trophy for the 16-18 Piobaireachd, the Royal Highland Fusiliers Cup for the 16-18 March, Strathspey and Reel and the Col. Murdoch MacTaggart, Bowmore, Memorial Trophy for the 16-18 Hornpipe & Jig.

The piping trophies were one of the first highlights of the packed nine days which conclude on October 19.

The cultural gathering brings together fans of Gaelic music and culture together to celebrate the language, history and future of the Gaels, with a packed programme of cultural activities, competitions, concerts, workshops and more.

Junior and senior piping competitions took place all weekend at Oban High School, with Arran’s performance proving a particular highlight in the 16-18 category.

James Graham, chief executive officer of organisers An Comunn Gàidhealach, said: “From Mànran’s electrifying performance to the remarkable talent of local artists, the opening weekend has brought the Mòd’s birthplace to life in spectacular style.”
