Twente Enschede Women’s captain captain has accused Celtic fans of smoking WEED during their recent European clash.

After Brendan Rodgers’ men kicked off their Champions League campaign with a big win over Slovan Bratislava and a heavy defeat to Borussia Dortmund, Elena Sadiku’s side began theirs with a 20- home defeat to Twente in Hamilton earlier this month. The Hoops are facing a potential travel ban after a pyro display in Dortmund incurred the wrath of UEFA, who slapped them with a €20,000 fine and a two-year suspended ban on selling away tickets.

And now those following the women have been ratted out for allegedly skinning up in the stands as Twente skipper Danique van Ginkel got on her high horse after getting a hefy whiff of weed wafting on to the pitch from the New Douglas park stands. And although the Dutch players later praised the atmosphere after an attendance of 2,784 in their 2-0 win, van Ginkel has grassed up the terracing tokers.

She said: “I have never experienced an atmosphere like that – there was so much cheering. But there was a downside – the fans were smoking weed. Everyone could smell it. You don’t normally smell that on the pitch. But we could still play football with it – the headache wasn’t too bad.”

The complaint isn’t believed to have been mentioned in the match delegate’s report on the game.
