(Gray News) – Liam Payne’s cause of death has been revealed in a preliminary autopsy report.

According to the Argentine public prosecutor‘s office, the autopsy showed internal bleeding and 25 traumatic injuries on Payne‘s body, including his skull, limbs and abdomen. The injuries are consistent with his fall and were enough to cause Payne’s death, according to the AP.

The AP reports that medical examiners listed Payne’s cause of death as “multiple trauma” and “internal and external bleeding.”

There were no defensive injuries and the public prosecutors said that Payne “could have fallen into a state of semi- or total unconsciousness.” Authorities also note that Payne was alone when he died.

Payne, 31, was found dead on Wednesday in the Casa Sur Hotel courtyard after falling from his room on the third floor.

Prosecutors said Thursday that the circumstances around his death were suspicious, due to the possibility that Payne “was going through some kind of substance abuse episode.”

Buenos Aires police said they found Payne‘s hotel room “in complete disarray.” Authorities said they found packs of clonazepam, a central nervous system depressant; energy supplements and other over-the-counter drugs in the room with Payne’s belongings. Forensics teams said that a whiskey bottle, a lighter and a cellphone were retrieved found near Payne’s body, according to the AP.

Medical examiners have requested toxicology tests.

Payne rose to fame as a member of One Direction with Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Niall Horan and Zayn Malik. The band announced an “indefinite hiatus” in 2016.
