Scotland look to have won the fight with the USA to land Rangers’ talented youngster Alexander Smith.

The 16-year-old had played for both countries up to this point. The attacking midfielder has now decided to commit to his country of birth. Smith has been selected for Scotland’s Under-17 and has accepted that call-up.

Smith will play against Northern Ireland in Belfast and then Lithuania and Republic of Ireland at home in the qualifiers. That is seen as a competitive game although Smith could still make a switch back at a later date, providing he doesn’t player a certain number of competitive games at full level.

The USA also had a training camp organised a training camp next month, with a glamour friendly against Inter Miami. It is in preparations for the US’ CONCACAF qualifiers, which are also competitive games.
