Threave Rovers are looking to continue their fine form of late by taking care of Greenock Juniors on Saturday.

The Meadow Park side travel to Clydeside in great shape following a stellar 3-0 win away to Berwick Rangers in the South Challenge Cup last weekend.

The impressive showing saw Danny Dunglinson’s side smack in three quick-fire goals through a headed double by Tam Coles then a strike from Harry Officer.

But now it’s back to business in the GreenVersity West of Scotland Football League – with grabbing all three points top priority.

Dunglinson told the News: “It’s vital we get a win because we have another two cup games coming up. If we beat Greenock that will take us to within two points of Thorn Athletic with a game in hand, so we really need to get a result on Saturday.”

After narrowly missing out on promotion last season, Threave are back in the hunt again.

They lie in third spot in Division 3 – five points behind leaders Thorn Athletic but with two games in hand.

Rivals Greenock are sixth and four points adrift, suggesting the advantage lies with the Galloway men – but Dunglinson is expecting a hard test.

Danny said: “If they perform like they did on Saturday there’s no reason why we can’t go up there and win.”

Threave certainly set the heather on fire at Berwick with a game plan to hit on the counter paying off handsomely.

And the gaffer was a happy man after his players delivered the goods.

He said: “Berwick are four leagues above us and historically they have been a League Two team until four or five years ago – 15 years ago they won the title.

“They are throwing a lot of money trying to get back into the league so it’s a big scalp for us.

“We were on top from the start – maybe they underestimated us. But we have got a lot of pace in the team through from the midfield to the forward players.

“We decided to hit them on the break and once we did there was no stopping us. Probably we played it well and after we got ahead we never looked back.”

He added: “It was quite calm in the dressing room after we won.

“It was as if we believed we were going to win then went out there and did exactly what we were supposed to do. It was a good job well done.”

The South Challenge Cup fourth round draw will be made tonight.
