A man has been arrested after two cars were allegedly torched during an early-hours firebomb attack in a Scots town.

Police and firefighters raced to the incident on Woodcot Court in Stonehaven, Aberdeenshire, after receiving the alarm at 4.39am on Friday. One fire engine attended the incident while crews used breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet to put the flames out.

Footage from the scene shows an inferno gripping the two motors as two firefighters battled to put the blaze out. Thick plumes of smoke can be seen spreading across the housing estate as the fire spread across the bonnet of one of the cars.

Police confirmed a 42-year-old man has been arrested in connection. Inquiries are ongoing.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 5.15am on Friday, 18 October, 2024, we received a report of two cars on fire on Woodcot Court, Stonehaven. There were no reports of any injuries.

“A 42-year-old man has been arrested in connection and enquiries are ongoing.”

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) said: “We received the call at 4.39am and dispatched one appliance from Stonehaven. Crews used two breathing apparatus and a hose reel jet. The stop message came in at 5.26am.”
