Two drivers have had their cars seized by Scots cops – after turning up to a police station in Edinburgh in vehicles that were not insured. The first driver arrived at the station in the capital in a blue BMW and was told his car was being seized because it was uninsured, so he arranged for a lift.

But his knight in shining armour turned out to be just as feckless, and arrived at the same unspecified station in another vehicle which was uninsured. So officers seized that vehicle as well, meaning they had to find another way of getting back home. The driving fail was revealed on social media.

A picture of the seized vehicles was posted on the Police Scotland Edinburgh page on X, formerly Twitter, along with details of what had happened. It read: “#EdinburghRP left in disbelief. The blue BMW driver had reason to visit a Police Station however his car had no insurance.

“First rule of being rescued is – make sure your rescuer has insurance. Second Rule of being rescued is – you guess it! Both car seized. #OpDriveInsured”

The picture showed both cars on a recovery truck sitting on the cobbled street outside the station.
