Every day is definitely better with a good hair day, that’s a fact. But the complexity arises when you’re left in charge of getting your own locks to cooperate, aiming for that ideal style can be more difficult than anticipated.

A beauty faux pas many of us are guilty of is in the way we dry our hair, often missing out on that desired volume. This nugget of info has been passed along by TikTok sensation @mattloveshair, whose recent hair tutorial has taken social media by storm.

In a trending video, he pointed out the common mistake, detailing: “Don’t blowdry your front pieces under the brush if you want volume. Instead, blowdry your front pieces over the brush.”

He went on to advise: “And then if you want your ends to flick away from your face, just define your part, and go back in and smooth the length with a twist away from your face.”

He makes it look like a breeze in the clip, but it might require some practice to get it right. Still, it’s an easy trick for boosting volume once you’ve got the hang of it.

Since being posted, the video has racked up more than 120,000 likes, with social media users flocking to comment. Many confessed to struggling with getting their hair tangled in the brush, leading to frustration.

One user exclaimed: “I swear it always looks so easy. I’m 42, and still can’t ever do my hair.” Another chimed in with: “I’m a cosmetology student, and I literally should be paying you tuition because I learn something from you every day.”

A third added: “Thanks – I will forever hear this in my head when blowdrying my hair.”

Meanwhile, a fourth shared their gratitude, writing: “As a flat, poker straight hair girly, I owe you. I think I’m in love. You’re amazing. Out there doing the Lord’s work.”

If you’re on the hunt for other ways to pump up your hair volume, there are plenty of tricks to try. For starters, volumising shampoos and sprays can give your locks that extra lift.

Dry shampoo is another great option for adding volume without dragging your hair down. A nifty shampoo technique involves massaging it into your roots and scalp, followed by conditioning just the bottom two-thirds of your strands.

And for an extra boost, try blowdrying your hair upside down – focusing the airflow from the roots upwards can really ramp up your style.
