Liam Payne’s former fiancée Maya Henry says the former One Direction star chillingly predicted his early death. The 31-year-old died on Wednesday, October 16, after he plunged from the third floor of a hotel in Buenos Aires where he was holidaying with girlfriend Kate Cassidy, reports the Mirror.

His body was discovered in an internal patio of the hotel and it’s believed he fell from around 13 or 14 metres and suffered “very serious injuries incompatible with life.” According to City ambulance service provider spokesman Alberto Crescenti, he had fallen around 40 feet and suffered “severe injuries”.

Liam and ex-fiancée Maya first met in 2015 during a One Direction meet and greet in Texas. They bumped into each other again in 2018 at the Dolce&Gabbana fashion show in Lake Como where she was modelling.

The pair got engaged in November 2019 – three months after officially dating in August that year – however, the pair split in June 2021. They soon reunited and got engaged again before splitting up for good in May 2022.

Maya discussed their troubled relationship in a TikTok video last week and a podcast interview on Monday, two days before his death. On Monday, the model told YouTube podcast The Internet Is Dead: “He would always message me ever since we broke up saying, ‘I am not well’.

“He would always play with death, saying, ‘I am going to die, I am not doing well’. There was one time that I tried to get him help and he was not taking it. He would text my mum and say ‘I’m not doing well, have Maya contact me’ because I wouldn’t respond.”

Liam – best known for being one fifth of One Direction – found fame in 2011 after he appeared on The X Factor, when judge Simon Cowell created the band with Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan. But Liam’s friend Luke Benson has spoken out about how “ill” the One Direction singer was, as he suggests he paid a heavy price for fame.

Liam’s One Direction bandmates have said they are “completely devastated” by the news of his death, adding: “The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever.”

In a statement signed “Louis, Zayn, Niall and Harry”, Liam Payne’s One Direction bandmates said: “We’re completely devastated by the news of Liam’s passing. In time, and when everyone is able to, there will be more to say. But for now, we will take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly.

“The memories we shared with him will be treasured forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends, and the fans who loved him alongside us. We will miss him terribly. We love you Liam.”
