The Lincoln Laywer star Manuel Garcia-Rulfo has a common learning difficulty which led to his ‘passion for acting’

The Mexican born actor, 43, plays lawyer Mickey Haller in the drama series, The Lincoln Lawyer, which recently just wrapped up its third season with a ‘shocking’ finale.

The show has been a hit among fans on Netflix but what many do not know about Manuel is his secret battle with dyslexia over the years. The actor previously revealed that he would create alternative realities for himself through daydreams which ending up leading to his love for acting.

Manuel recalls how his grandmother used to help him learn his lines for scripts which he found tricky but managed to get through thanks to her special method.

HELLO! reports that the actor said in a previous interview: “I bought a blackboard and put it in my apartment. It was crazy I made mental maps with images, drawings. I did it for every scene.

“If there was a gun, I drew a gun. It’s easier for me to learn that way.”

Manuel also credits his love for films to his grandfather who worked as a local dentist but had a talent for movie-making which involved the entire family.

Speaking to the Wall Street Journal, he recalled: “He had a huge family of eight girls and my father. Decades later, when I was growing up, he’d screen the short films for me and his 31 other grandkids.

“They were wonderful action dramas, usually about cowboys or robberies.”

The entire third season of The Lincoln Lawyer is available to stream on Netflix now.
