SAN ANTONIO — After four days of scouring an east Bexar County landfill for evidence connected to Suzanne Simpson’s disappearance, authorities said Thursday they were ending their search efforts at the site.
Deon Cockrell, a spokesperson for the Texas Department of Public Safety, said no evidence was found after “an extensive search consisting of digging and sifting through the municipal solid waste.” San Antonio police cadets, Texas Rangers and other law enforcement assisted in hours of searching through trash and rubble this week.
“The case is still being investigated and will continue,” Cockrell said in a statement Thursday. “We ask that anyone with pertinent information come forward.”
DPS said they received information during the course of their investigation that led them to narrow their search to the landfill, and police officials in Olmos Park, the San Antonio-area community where Simpson lives, said Tuesday they were “confident there is a good chance of recovering Suzanne” at the site.
“We explained what they are looking for. It’s not lost on them what they are searching for,” San Antonio Police Department Deputy Chief Jesse Salame said this week. “We will debrief with them afterwards. If they need to talk about what they did and what they saw, they have counselors and psychological services if they need them.”
Now law enforcement will continue scouring for any evidence connected to the woman’s disappearance, having already looked in multiple counties where the Simpsons have properties. The 51-year-old realtor and mother was last seen on the evening of Oct. 6.
Brad Simpson, 53, remains jailed and accused of assaulting his wife the night she disappeared. He also faces a federal charge for possessing an unregistered short-barrel rifle.
But authorities have not definitively connected him to his wife’s disappearance.
