KANAWHA COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – The trial for a couple accused of locking two children in a barn without food and water in Kanawha County has been pushed back to January.

Jeanne Whitefeather and Donald Lantz appeared Thursday in Kanawha County Circuit Court for a joint status hearing. The trial was originally set for next month.

The state is asking for more time to do expert evaluations and general trial preparation.

One defense attorney asked for the trial date to happen in late February or March, but Judge Maryclaire Akers said that she won’t let the case drag on for a lengthy time.

The couple’s trial is now set for January.
