ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. (Gray News) – A 39-year-old law enforcement officer was killed by her estranged husband, a former sheriff’s office employee, according to authorities in Florida.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office says Lt. Eloilda “Ellie” Shea was shot and killed by Anthony Shea on Oct. 14.

Deputies responded for what initially appeared to be a suicide, but investigators later determined Eloilda Shea was killed by 49-year-old Anthony Shea, a former sergeant with the Orange County Sheriff’s Office.

Anthony Shea was arrested on Friday and booked without bond at the Orange County Jail on a first-degree murder charge. He started with the sheriff’s office in 2006, but resigned earlier this year while under investigation for allegations that would have ended in his termination.

Eloilda Shea joined the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in 2011. She was known as “a compassionate law enforcement officer, rising star and friend to so many she worked alongside.”

She was a mother to two girls.

“She lit up every room she entered with her infectiously bubbly personality, beautiful spirit and kind smile,” the sheriff’s office said of Eloilda Shea.
