WASHINGTON, D.C. — On the same day the Knicks ruled Landry Shamet out with a dislocated right shoulder, two other rotation players had scares on the court.
Josh Hart walked gingerly off the floor in the third quarter and went straight to the locker room before emerging moments later and spending the remainder of the game on the bench.
Precious Achiuwa also attempted to dunk on a Wizards player and came up holding his hamstring early in the fourth period. He walked straight to the locker room and spent the rest of the final period in the locker room, as well.
NOTES
The Knicks went on to lose Friday’s preseason finale, 118-117, but depth remains a concern for a team that traded Donte DiVincenzo and Julius Randle away in the Karl-Anthony Towns trade.
Town’s shooting woes continue: The Knicks’ All-Star center shot just 0-of-5 from downtown on Friday and finished the preseason shooting 4-of-23 from three-point range. Towns finished the game with 22 points, 12 rebounds and four assists, but the Knicks will need the career 39.8 percent three-point shooter to connect from deep for their five-out offense to function at an optimal level.
Mikal Bridges shooting slump: The Knicks traded five first-round picks and a pick swap to the Nets for Bridges, but he missed all 10 of his threes in Friday’s victory/loss to the Wizards. Bridges finished the preseason shooting just 2-of-19, or 10.5 percent from three-point range
Rookie rising: In Shamet’s absence, Tom Thibodeau turned to Pacome Dadiet, the 25th overall pick in the June NBA Draft. After scoring 16 points on three-of-six shooting from downtown in his preseason debut, Dadiet added another 10 points on two-of-three shooting from deep on Friday. Tyler Kolek also made back-to-back go-ahead buckets in the final minute of regulation but turned the inbounds pass over with 10 seconds left on the clock.
The Knicks are off on Saturday but will practice Sunday and Monday before their season opener against the Boston Celtics on Tuesday. They run through a gamut of Eastern Conference contenders to open the season, hosting the Indiana Pacers and Cleveland Cavaliers after the opener before traveling to Miami to face the Heat.
