One Direction star Liam Payne’s tragic death, after his fall from a Buenos Aires hotel balcony, has touched not just fans of the group but also people all around the world.

Having enjoyed phenomenal success in one of Britain’s best loved boy bands, it seemed he had it all. Instead, it turns out that, at just 31, Liam was a tormented star and mental health issues may have contributed to his death.

If there is a lesson for all of us, perhaps it’s that depression, anxiety and feelings of worthlessness and myriad other emotions can happen to any of us. That’s why it’s so important to seek help if you are feeling down or feel that you can’t cope.

That help might come from friends, your local GP, in the workplace or mental health organisations. It’s worth remembering that mental health issues no longer carry the stigma they perhaps once did.

Nobody will judge you and you might find the help you need is just a phone call or a visit away. Equally, if you suspect someone else is suffering in silence try to make their day a little better, whether it’s a friend, a relative or a stranger.

Your smile or helping hand could make the world of difference and the reward of knowing that you’ve brightened up someone else’s day might just give you a much needed lift too.

Not all should inherit tax rise

The upcoming Budget is causing a lot of concern because of what the Tories left behind and what might lie ahead.

Chancellor Rachel Reeves is looking into how she can fill the £22billion black hole in Treasury finances. And one of the ways she is considering is through increasing inheritance tax.

It is not known how many people would pay more or how much they would pay, but the Chancellor is said to be considering various options. Inheritance tax should be looked at, but the burden on any increases must not fall on people receiving a nest egg left from their hard-working parents.

They should be targeted at the most well off, those who can afford to carry a little bit more of the burden. But in order for any changes to work, the UK Government should look into closing any loopholes to makes sure whatever is due is paid. Those with the broadest shoulders should bear more of the burden when times are hard.
