Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini still reckons Celtic are a force to be reckoned in the Champions League ahead of their meeting on Wednesday and is not paying any attention to hammering dished out by Borussia Dortmund two weeks ago.

Gasperini’s men warmed up for the Bergamo clash against the Hoops with a 2-0 victory at Venezia. with summer signing Mateo Retegui bagging his 10th goal of the season for club and country after Mario Pasalic had given the Europa League holders an early lead. Celtic – who were held to a 2-2 home draw by Aberdeen on Saturday – were giving a harsh lesson at elite level in their 7-1 defeat to Borussia Dortmund on matchday two, but Gasperini insists that no result is a given in European football.

Asked if his team will be able to extend their winning run to four matches in all competitions by beating Brendan Rodgers‘ side, he replied: “You have to play all the games, the results are never a given. Celtic are in another competition, they are in the Champions League, a team used to winning in Scotland.

“They are coming from a bad defeat against Borussia, it’s true, but we will need to be in great shape, we will have to play very well because in the Champions League the games are always difficult. It is not decisive but it is a game that can already be fundamental.”
