A child was washed out to sea along with a man and woman at Aberdeen Beach amid strong winds from Storm Ashley.

Emergency crews raced to the scene at around 4pm on Sunday, October 20. All three were rescued and have been taken to the hospital but no information is available on their condition at this stage.

Police are urging members of the public to avoid the area due to the exceptional weather, which is causing large waves. Weather warnings are in place across parts of the country until tomorrow morning

Sergeant Scott McKay said: “We are aware of a number of people who are still in the beach area and we would urge them to leave as soon as possible for safety reasons.

“The weather we are experiencing is creating unsafe conditions and I would ask that you follow our advice.”
