As the temperature drops, people in the UK are becoming more aware of their energy bills and seeking smart ways to cut costs.

With the cost of living crisis affecting millions, many are growing worried about the rising costs of their heating bills.

A team of heating experts suggests several ways to optimise heat retention in your home at night, ensuring you don’t lose warmth or waste money. One of these changes is completely free and can be extremely effective for keeping a warm and cosy house.

Experts at Studio suggest that rearranging your bedroom furniture can significantly affect both your sleep quality and heat retention.

They said: “As simple as it sounds, you may not have thought about how the layout of your room is impacting your sleep.

“Make sure your bed is positioned away from windows and doors to avoid any draught. You also want your bed to be as close to the room’s radiator as possible without obstructing it, as this will impact the overall temperature of the room.

“Allow enough space for the radiator’s heat to circulate so that the entire bedroom is nice and toasty at night.”

Additionally, experts have suggested some other cost cutting methods to keep your house warm throughout the night. So, you don’t have to turn the heating on.

Try an electric or weighted blanket

An electric blanket is a lot cheaper to use than keeping your heating on whilst you are in bed.

The electric blanket is plugged into a power source, and put under your comforter to provide a source of heat. Most electric blankets come with self-timers, allowing you to sleep freely without the fear of it overheating whilst you sleep.

Choose fleece or flannel bedding

One of the simplest ways to avoid feeling cold whilst in bed, is to replace your bedding with a warmer alternative.

The ideal bedding materials to consider are flannel or fleece. You can find multiple warmer alternatives for a reasonable price, in most supermarkets.

Reseal your windows

Additionally, it’s important to inspect your windows for cracks and leaks, as these can lead to drafts or condensation.

If you spot either you can use a silicone based caulk or sealant to reseal your windows yourself, cutting costs without having to hire a professional.
