A man has been left gobsmacked over the items included in his Too Good To Go bag – as he praises the company for its idea.

Too Good To Go is striving to reduce food waste by encouraging cafes, restaurants, and supermarkets to advertise goods nearing their sell-by-date to hungry customers.

Through their app, customers can browse what eateries in their area have items for sale that would otherwise end up in the bin. The mystery bags cost a fraction of the price – usually under £5 – and can include a ‘treasure trove’ of goods.

Sharing what he got in his Blank Street bag, Ishan, who is known as @ishxn.a on TikTok, showed off each item in a now-viral video. To start, he explains how he bought the bag for just £3.50 – but the four items inside added up to £12.80.

In bag number one, he was surprised with a pistachio pain au chocolate costing £3.40, next up was an almond croissant priced at £3.30, third was a cinnamon bun at £3.20, and to end, he showed off a pistachio cookie at £2.90.

Describing their business model, a Too Good To Go statement reads: “Too Good To Go was founded in 2016 in Copenhagen to fight food waste. In eight years, the company has grown to over 100 million registered users and 170,000 active business partners across 19 countries in Europe and North America. Too Good To Go has helped to save over 350 million meals from being wasted, the equivalent of 891,000 tonnes of CO2e avoided.”

However, elsewhere on TikTok, user Aaliyah Anderson expressed her disappointment after opening a Too Good To Go bag from Morrisons, which cost her £2.

Aaliyah held up a massive Morrisons bag at the start of the video, exclaiming: “Look at the size of it!” And things still seemed to be going well when she pulled out the first item, a batch of bread rolls. “Can’t go wrong,” she said.

However, things then did start to go wrong as she pulled more and more bread from the bag. Holding up her second batch of bread rolls, she said: “Oh no… they’re actually hard as rocks! What am I going to do with them? This is such a fail.”

She continued pulling packets of bread rolls from the bag, and even though they weren’t all “hard”, two more batches were “burnt”. In total, she had four six-packs of rolls as well as two bags containing more rolls.

Aaliyah said while the six-packs of rolls were “definitely edible”, the rolls in the bags were not. Demonstrating their hardness on camera, she remarked: “What am I going to do with that? Come on… I know it’s a Too Good To Go bag, but there’s also what’s edible. Would say, this was a big fat fail. And I won’t be getting the Morrisons one again.”

A Morrisons spokesperson told us: “Customers and colleagues continue to tell us how much they value Too Good To Go’s Surprise Bags from Morrisons.

“It saves customers money while also helping us to play our part in reducing food waste. Each Too Good To Go bag should contain quality food nearing its sell-by date, available at a reduced price. On this occasion, those standards fell short and we apologise to the customer for their experience.”

Too Good To Go has also been approached for comment.
