Law and District Amateur Athletics Club kicked off their cross country season with the West District Relays in Kilmarnock.

Several athletes were keen to get out in the wet and mud, with some good results.

The club’s Young Females ‘A’ team of Lucy Corns, Grace Frood and Olivia Inglis finished 24th of 57 teams. The ‘B’ team of Molly Baxter, Helena Wotherspoon and Nieve Fitzpatrick were 38th.

Young Males ‘A’ team of Jamie Mackie, Alexander Wotherspoon and Cameron Chambers finished ninth of 36 teams. The ‘B’ team of Declan Hare, James Black and Alfie Brown were 25th.

Law and District’s only senior woman competing was Emily McNicol, representing Glasgow University, and she finished fifth out of 44 teams, alongside Rachel Giffen and Laura Diana Jedrusiak.

Senior men Bobby Hill, Ryan Kellock, Allan Neill and Mark Hand finished 11th of 50 teams.

There was also success at the St Andrew’s Hospice Schools’ 6k at Strathclyde Park.

Ryan Kellock finished second overall, Cameron Chambers third and Jessica Inglis was first female, with Cora Beattie following closely.

Young athletes competed at the Scottish Schools’ Primary and Secondary Schools’ Road Race Championships in Dunfermline.

Highlights were S2 Alexander Wotherspoon finishing fifth of 109 runners, S2 Emily Taylor 10th of 129, S3 Lucy Taylor 14th of 161, S4 John Frood 14th of 145, and S6 Jessica Inglis finishing eighth of 83.

The Great Scottish Run in Glasgow produced excellent results for senior athletes in both the 10k race and the half-marathon.

Ross MacDonald finished 16th in the half-marathon in 1:12.01. Emily McNicol was 422nd in 1:25.14 and Kieran Pugh 485th in 1:26.16.

Reagan Binnie was 670th in 1:28.28 and Elaine Boyle 954th in 1:31.02.

Lesley Graham excelled in the Glasgow to Edinburgh Ultra Marathon, covering a distance of 92km, with a gold medal round her neck after finishing in the top 100 runners with 74th place, 17th female, fifth in her age group and in a time of 9hrs 52mins.

Law athletes are now working towards the National Cross Country Relays in Cumbernauld on Saturday.
