The incident, which took place just before 12.30pm on Saturday, blocked the road between the entry and exit slips at Bobbing on the A249 near Sittingbourne.

Photographs from the scene show the lorry spread across the dual carriageway while the front cab and wheels were resting on the grass verge after it crashed through the central reservation.

Debris was reported on both sides of the carriageway.

The road remained closed for nearly three hours as emergency services worked to remove the vehicle and clear up the scene.

The road later reopened at about 3.15pm.

It is not clear what led to the lorry jackknifing across the major road.

has contacted Kent Police to see if anyone was hurt in the incident.

A National Highways spokesperson said at the time: ‘Traffic is being taken off and back on at this junction due to a jackknifed lorry. Kent Police are on scene along with National Highways traffic officers.’

An updated statement issued later said: ‘The #A249 has re-opened within the junction of the #B2006 northbound near #Sittingbourne in #Kent following the recovery of a jack-knifed lorry.

‘Thank you for your patience, please have a safe onward journey.’
