CHARLES COUNTY, Md. (Gray News) – A 5-year-old boy was found dead in a pond near his home after being reported missing, according to authorities.

Miles McMahon, who had autism and was nonverbal, was reported missing on Oct. 13 after home security footage showed him leaving his house and skipping in his front year.

Family members called 911 and searched the area and could not find him.

Hours later, Miles was found dead in a pond near his home in Charles County, Maryland.

Police had searched the pond earlier that day, but did not find him. When they searched again in the evening, they found Miles.

“We are heartbroken along with Miles’ family and all of you. Please keep Miles and his family in your thoughts and prayers as well as all first responders and all of those who assisted,” the Charles County Sheriff’s Office wrote on Facebook.
