CLINTON COUNTY, Iowa (KWQC/Gray News) – Iowa officials have identified three children who were killed in a crash earlier this month.

The two-vehicle crash happened near the 3700 block of Highway 30 around 9:18 a.m. on Oct. 7, according to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies said they arrived at the crash scene to find an SUV with severe rear-end damage in the ditch and a flatbed truck on the side of the road with front-end damage.

Officials said the SUV occupants included two adults and four children under the age of 5, while the truck had one adult driver.

Two children, identified as 4-year-old Ja’Cesan Jackson and 2-year-old Miko King, were found dead at the scene, according to deputies. Another child, identified as 5-year-old Layani CarterEpps, was airlifted to a hospital where they later died.

The Iowa State Patrol said the children did not appear to be wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The state patrol said the two adults, ages 38 and 22, were airlifted to Iowa City, and the fourth child was taken to an area hospital.

The 70-year-old truck driver was also taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

The case remains under investigation by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office and the Iowa State Patrol.

A GoFundMe has been set up for the funeral costs of the three children. As of Sunday, it has garnered more than $6,300 of its $20,000 goal.
