Outlander is officially coming to an end, with just one more season to go after season seven is wrapped up with eight more episodes later this year.

Starz’s thrilling series follows the adventures of Highland warrior Jamie Fraser (played by Sam Heughan) who becomes besotted with a time traveller from the 1940s, Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe).

Their journey has spanned seven seasons so far, but Heughan and the cast have recently wrapped up their final farewells in the climactic eighth instalment, expected to be released next year.

During a recent interview, the Scottish star confirmed he’s going back next week for “pickups”.

He then poignantly reflected on how much the show has meant to him for over a decade.

“It’s been a huge part of my life,” he said. “So, I don’t know where I go from here.”

He then joked he could be about to join Al Roker, Craig Melvin and Dylan Reyer on the Today show.

“If you guys have got a spare seat…” he teased, sparking laughter from the hosts.

Craig quipped: “There are a couple of openings here!”

Fans were eating up the latest round of interviews from the Outlander cast, with one YouTube user commenting: “Love to see Sam Heughan in these interviews!

“Such a great actor, entrepreneur and always a gentleman. Can’t wait to see more of his work in the future. Thank you for having him on your show!”

Another said: “Best show ever, we don’t want it to end! And we fans can’t wait to see what comes next for this amazing man and the rest of the cast.

“Btw, Sam didn’t mention his Sassenach gin, it’s delicious too.”

What’s next for the Jamie Fraser star?

Outside his role as Jamie, Heughan has been selling whisky and gin under his label Sassenach Spirits, inspired by his character’s affectionate nickname for Claire.

Unfortunately, he has no future acting projects confirmed just yet as his schedule has been packed with filming the seventh and eighth seasons of Outlander in quick succession.

However, he recently found success portraying Danny in the Channel 4 and Starz thriller The Couple Next Door, which some have speculated could return for a second season.

He has also appeared alongside his fellow Outlander star Graham McTavish in two seasons of Men In Kilts.

The first season saw the pair explore their heritage and culture in Scotland, while season two shook things up with a trip to New Zealand to trace their country’s surprising roots.

Outlander season seven part two premieres on Friday, November 22, on MGM+ via Prime Video in the UK and on Starz in the US.
